Fabrice Rivault is the current Director of Government & Institutional Relations (Canada) for McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Acting as the main point of contact in matters relating to federal governmental relations, Fabrice contributes to the development of the University’s advocacy strategy and advances positive relationships with institutional partners and counterparts across higher education networks in Quebec, Canada and abroad.
With a deep interest for International Affairs, Science and Technology, Fabrice obtained a Masters of Arts in International Relations from McGill University and wrote a dissertation that laid the grounds for the development of a new field of research in IR: International Political Culturology. With an MBA in Strategic Management from McGill University, he's worked in the consulting business in France and Canada, has consulted for many non-profits internationally and has advised numerous politicians at the federal level of politics in Canada on various areas of public policy.
An accomplished public relations professional, Fabrice notably acted as Director of Communications for former astronaut and current Member of Parliament Marc Garneau, as well as for Canada’s former Minister of Justice and Attorney General, the Honorable Martin Cauchon. As Director of Communications and Policy for the Liberal Party of Canada, Fabrice also played a central role in coordinating a team of lawyers to rewrite the Constitution of the Party and was the source of many of the innovative policy resolutions emanating from the Policy Commission.
As one of his greatest achievements, Fabrice took a leadership role in initiating and driving the policy process that led the Liberal Party of Canada to recognize Quebec as a nation within Canada in October 2006 - which in turn led to the historical recognition of the "Québécois nation" by the Parliament of Canada, just one month later. He was later invited by the Editor in Chief of La Presse (Quebec's biggest newspaper) to write a chapter on the subject in his book Reconquering Canada: Quebec Federalists Speak Up For Change.
Fully bilingual and with a dual French and Canadian citizenship, Fabrice was born in France and raised in Calgary, Alberta. Having lived in Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, Montréal, Toronto, Ottawa, Los Angeles and likewise traveled the globe, he now resides in Montreal where he provides counsel to administration and other areas of the university.
